KajuKido™ Basics
KajuKido™ is a blend of two very different Martial Arts: Kajukenbo and Aikido. In blending the two, we integrated techniques and principles from both Arts. The result was a very comprehensive system that includes the following:
Basic Karate:
Stances
Footwork
Blocks
Punches
Elbow Strikes
Kicks
Throws
Boxing
Kata:
A “kata” is a structured series of movements whose purpose is to teach one how to integrate footwork, timing, striking, and blocking, as if responding to multiple attackers.
There are 7 Kata in the system … one required for each Belt Advancement and one that is practiced as a meditation.
70 Kajukenbo-based Techniques:
Counters – basic defenses for responding to an attack
Roll Counters – pushed into a roll followed by a defensive response
Advanced Counters – advanced defenses for responding to an attack
Grab Arts – defenses used to defend against someone grabbing you
Throw Arts – basic judo movements that result in throwing an attacker
Club Defenses – basic defenses to being attacked with a club
Knife Defenses – basic defenses to being attacked with a knife
70 Aikido-based techniques:
Katate Kosa Dori – attacker grabbing one of your wrists with their opposite hand
Katate Dori – attacker grabbing one of your wrists with their same-side hand
Katate Ryote Dori – attacker grabbing both of your wrists in front of you
Katate Ryote Mochi – attacker grabbing one of your wrists with both hands
Mune Tuski – defense to an attacker’s Forward Punch
Shomen Uchi – defenses to an attacker’s Overhead Strike
Yokomen Uchi – defenses to an attacker’s Overhead strike at a 45 degree angle
Ushiro Tekubi Tori – defenses to an attacker grabbing both of your wrists from behind
Rank/Belt System:
KajuKido’s Rank/Belt system is divided into three categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. There are two belts within each category, resulting in six belts. Advancement through all of these leads to the 7th Belt, which is a 1st Degree Black Belt in KajuKido.
As indicated above, each Rank/Belt is comprised of techniques and principles from both Kajukenbo and Aikido, as well as a Kata.
