Kajukenbo Basics
Kajukenbo is a very aggressive Martial Art System. It was created in the Hawaiian Islands as a means of dealing with the violence that was occurring at that time. It is a very physically demanding Art.
Kajukenbo covers all of the basic Karate components of:
Stances
Footwork
Blocks
Punches
Elbow Strikes
Kicks
Throws
Boxing
It also includes 10 Katas:
A “kata” is a structured series of movements whose purpose is to teach one how to integrate footwork, timing, striking, and blocking, as if responding to multiple attackers.
The system itself consists of 113 Techniques:
10 Counters – basic defenses for responding to an attack
21 Roll Counters – pushed into a roll followed by a defensive response
25 Tricks (Advanced Counters) – advanced defenses for responding to an attack
17 Grab Arts – defenses used to defend against someone grabbing you
10 Combinations – basic judo movements that result in throwing an attacker
7 Club Defenses – basic defenses to being attacked with a club
11 Knife Defenses – basic defenses to being attacked with a knife
